Dear All,

You would know that the Government is planning to make unspecified number of barrages and to undertake large scale dredging for the same on the Ganga to enable plying of large ships. Inland Waterways Authority of India has given three TORs for the study of Environment, Market and Technical aspects under a loan from the World Bank. These studies will determine the direction of the project. We need to intervene now.

A Representation was sent to the World Bank pointing out many flaws in the TORs (Please see attached). An earlier representation was also sent about a year ago.
The World Bank has agreed to meet us regarding this study.

The meeting is important because we may approach the Inspection Panel if we find the World Bank does not take our concerns on board.

I have to most humbly request you to kindly make it convenient to join us in the meeting.

We need to make it clear to the Bank that the study in its present form is simply unacceptable.

Kindly let me know if you are planning to join.

Thank you,
Bharat Jhunjhunwala
